Master's Thesis Registration & Defense Protocol: International Students, Payam Noor University

Phase 1: Academic Status Clearance

Prior to starting, students must ensure

They are officially enrolled in the "Thesis" course unit via the Golestan Student Portal (Reg.pnu.ac.ir)-

Their status as a "final semester student" has been verified by their academic advisor-

Phase 2: Supervisor Selection & Topic Agreement

• Students must select a Main Supervisor from the pool of eligible full-time faculty members.
• The supervisor's expertise, department, and available capacity must align with the student's proposed thesis topic.
• Securing a supervisor's preliminary agreement on the research topic is mandatory.

 Ineligible Supervisors include⚠️ 

• Faculty holding an "Instructor" rank.
• Professors outside the student's direct field of study.
• Supervisors who have reached their maximum advising capacity or lack departmental approval.

Phase 3: Formal Application via Golestan Portal

After securing a supervisor's informal agreement, students must

• Navigate to: Service Desk > Request for Topic & Supervisors Approval.
• Formally register their chosen supervisor and thesis title in the system.

Phase 4: Thesis Proposal Development

• Deadline: The full proposal must be completed within 20 days of the initial Golestan registration.
• Two official reports must be generated:
  1. Literature Review Report: https://pishineh.irandoc.ac.ir
  2. Plagiarism Check Report (Similarity Index < 30%): https://tik.irandoc.ac.ir

Phase 5: Upload Documents to Golestan
Required documents for proposal submission

• The finalized proposal document, signed by both the student and supervisor.
• The Literature Review report (citing a maximum of 5 key sources).
• The Plagiarism Check report confirming a similarity score of under 30%.

Important: All reports must be dated within the current semester of application⚠️ 

Phase 6: National Proposal Registration (IranDoc)

• Upon departmental approval in Golestan, the proposal must be registered nationally on the IranDoc platform.
• Obtaining and safeguarding the IranDoc Proposal Registration Certificate is essential for the next steps.

📍Completion of these steps constitutes the official proposal approval. The student may now proceed to the thesis writing stage

Phase 7: Thesis Writing Phase

• The writing period begins after official proposal approval.
• Minimum Duration: A period of three months must elapse after proposal approval before defense can be scheduled.

Phase 8: Final Thesis Plagiarism Check

• The complete, final draft of the thesis must be uploaded to the IranDoc similarity check system.
• The Final Similarity Report is a mandatory document for applying for thesis defense.

Phase 9: Apply for Defense in Golestan

• Navigate to: Service Desk > Thesis Defense Request.
• Required documents to attach:
  1. Supervisor's Approval Form confirming thesis readiness.
  2. IranDoc Proposal Registration Certificate.
  3. Final Similarity Report, endorsed by the supervisor.

Phase 10: Defense Scheduling & Examiner Appointment

Phase 11: Thesis Defense Examination
(Public defense session attended by the student, supervisor, and examination committee)
